On May 14, 2020, a driver struck and killed four adults in Santa Clara county. The accident happened at 10:15 PM, and because of the high-speed collision, three of the victims were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. The fourth person died from injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle was a 24-year-old man who was brought to the hospital with minimal injuries. According to court documents, when his blood alcohol was tested, the results were .206, severely over the .08 percent legal limit. The driver has been charged with murder because of his suspended license from a DUI incident in December 2018. Because of the Watson ruling, his decision to drive while intoxicated allowed him to be liable for murder under an implied malice theory. He is currently being held without bail in the Santa Clara Country Main Jail.
This incident is still under investigation by the San Francisco Police Department.
