Most people understand that driving can be risky. While we do what is necessary to stay safe on the roadway, there is no way to predict and prevent all of the dangers we may face. A recent Mountain View crash in which two trucks slammed into an abandoned vehicle on the highway illustrates some unexpected dangers that can be caused by negligent drivers. The San Francisco car accident attorneys at Allegiance Law want to discuss this case as well as some of the other common causes of car accidents in this area.

What Happened In This Accident?

We want to bring you a story out of Mountain View to highlight how complex DUI cases can become. Recently, two work trucks smashed into a vehicle that was abandoned on Hwy 101. The incident happened in the northbound lanes at around 2:00 in the morning. The work trucks were carrying gravel, which spilled onto the roadway and closed the highway for hours.

Police say that a 25-year-old driver, who was later arrested for DUI, abandoned his vehicle after he hit the center divider. Shortly after he abandoned the vehicle, the work trucks slammed into it. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries. This is likely only because the trucks that struck the vehicle were large, protecting the drivers from serious harm.

One news report says that the alleged drunk driver is lucky he got out of the vehicle when he did. Looking at the damage, the driver likely would have been seriously injured or killed had he stayed in the vehicle.

Drunk Driving Incidents Are Common In California

When we look at data from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), we can see there were over 270,000 injuries and approximately 4,000 fatalities as a result of traffic crashes during the latest reporting year. Many people do not realize that approximately 31% of all fatal traffic crashes in this state were caused by drunk drivers last year. Impaired drivers were also responsible for injuring more than 26,000 people.

These incidents often lead to severe injuries, and it is not uncommon for our San Francisco car accident lawyers to help clients suffering from the following:
