There are some dreams that are stock dreams. For example, the dream of going from high school to college to a decent paying job is a stock dream. It used to be a guarantee, but not anymore. Another stock dream is playing sports in high school, get a full athletic scholarship then play pro. High School Football Tragedy

If you are or aren’t an avid sports follower, you may still have heard about the concussion issues in the major football league. Concussions are small brain injuries. When you have too many of them the results can be disastrous. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, CTE, is a 4 stage disease triggered by concussions. New studies have discovered signs of CTE in athletes as young as high school students. This is cause for panic because the more head hits the more likely the person will suffer from CTE. This life-threatening condition begs the question, is it worth it? After all the money and fame, is it worth it?

These questions will never be answered by 14-year-old Rashaun Council. During a freshman football game, Council was hit and was showing signs of an early stage concussion. The coaches and staff witnessed Council’s behavior and did nothing. Council’s teammates even told the coaches that Council was acting weird, but the comments were dismissed. Council continued to play. When the game was over Council was found slumped over and puking in the locker room. Still, the coaches and staff did not call 911 or attempt to aid the child in a satisfactory way.

It was Council’s father that took him to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctors discovered that Council’s brain was already swelling. Emergency surgery was conducted and he was placed into an induced coma for recovery. Because of this neglect Council will never play professionally, he will never live a normal life, and he will never be the same again.
